Bedside Manners

My grandmother had these exact red/orange figurines, now my mother has them.  I always thought they were strange but couldn't ever figure out how they fit in my grandmother's home as they are a little chinoiserie chic.  She had mid-century modern taste and loved white carpet, even though she had 5 grandchildren always in her home.  This image inspired me when I saw it in Lonny Magazine a while back and it kind of inspired me to add something of this sort in my own home.  No, Mom, I will not ask for you to send them to me...you can keep them.  That is unless you want to give them up.

Just a few of my favorite things I can't live without...

Of course this is a given...JCrew.

Travel--It helps me stay sane at work.

Food--It nourishes the mind, body and soul.  Cooking at home can be so much fun!

Winston--my maltipoo.  This is him at the beach this summer.  Right now he has a short hair cut and he isn't as cute with short hair as he is with long hair, but it will grow, right?

Bravo Reality Shows--specifically Bethenny Getting Married

My reusuable grocery bags.  I carry at least two in my purse at all times.  You never know when you will need to make a quick stop at the grocery store on your way home from work.

Note to Mom...

Dear Mom,

I would like to have my childhood furniture, I hated until now, back.

This is what I want to do with it when I have a larger space to put it.  Isn't it lovely?

Love,
A

I had this exact furniture as a child. It is yellow under that paint job. Can you believe I can make that crap look like that if I just add a little paint and elbow grease? I love the color Jordan used on hers...it is still neutral with original hardware.  The oh so calming color palette of the dresser plays off the accent color of yellow.  I am so in love with the idea of taking old and turning it new with a little bit of weekend project effort.

Crush of the Week

We all know I love an all white room with a pop of color but I am here to show you the work of Sarah Richardson.  She has a an eye for design and astethic that is unlike anyone I've ever seen.  I try my best to follow her show Sarah's House, which the season is over for now, on HGTV as often as possible.  She can walk in to a diamond in the rough home and make it a gem.  Here are some examples of her work.

Carolina on my mind

So S.H. and I are planning a little get-a-way for Labor Day weekend to Duck, NC.  For our little vacay we have an adventure-packed trip up our sleeves.  And while I am planning outfits in my head, I thought I would share a fun little colletion perfect for a trip of this type.

I love the Vera Bradley towel!  The beach bag is made from a real sail off a sail boat...how cool is that?  You know that sucker will last a lifetime.  Everything else is, of course, JCrew--from my closet too.

Beach Vacation!

I so wish I was back here today...why is it so hard to come back to work after vacation?  Is there a cure for that?

Another GP Home Tour...

I know it seems like every time you turn around GP, AKA Mrs GOOP, and Hubby have renovated another one of their digs.  But this is their Tribeca apartment this time around--and again it is so wonderful--decorated by Roman and Williams.  Here are a few images of the apartment.

Now this is what I call color

If you ever caught an episode of Top Design on Bravo, you might be familiar with Eddie Ross.  He use to be with Martha Stewart but recently has ventured out on his own.  He is famously know for his great tablescapes with flea market finds.  Here is a great example of his bold style.  He has an interesting style and gets most of his milk glass and linens at Estate Sales and Flea Markets.  He has an eye for turning his unique finds into something unpredictable.
